It’s nearly March now and nearly all people have completely forgotten about their New Year’s Resolutions. The gym is empty again – especially on the weekends. No one is talking about how they’re going to abstain from alcohol or cigarettes anymore. They all just seem to get quiet and let everything return to the way it was before. We become too preoccupied with our busy lives to notice ourselves and everyone else slowly recede back into the comfort zone.

But don’t worry! This isn’t going to happen to you this time because in this article, I’m going to give you 5 simple things you can do to ensure that you will actually follow through this time:
1. FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS YOU ACTUALLY WANT.
Do you want to be fit? Do you want to drop 30lbs? Do you want to quit smoking?
These are all great things, but they only go surface level. Next thing you need to do is figure out why.
“I want to become more physically fit and lose 30lbs of fat so that I can live a happier and healthier life and be around longer for my children.”
2. BE WILLING TO COMMIT.
Once you’ve actually figured out what it is you want to do and why, you are well on your way to success. Having a clearly defined reason is a huge first step.
Now you’ve got to be aware of what it’s actually going to take to accomplish this goal.
If your goal is to get fit, you need to be aware that you’ll have to set aside a regular time to get to the gym and exercise. If you don’t know what to do, you’re going to have to research exercises and regiments. You might need to find other people who are in the same boat as you for motivation (@FitnessBandwagon on Facebook is a good place to start).
If your goal is to quit smoking or drinking, you need to prepare yourself mentally for what that means. Be aware that you ARE going to fiend. It is not going to be easy at first.
3. PREPARE FOR SUCCESS
Preparing for success ties into your awareness of the commitment you’re about to make.
In the ongoing example of fitness goals, things you could do is find a journal to keep track, and start taking your ‘before’ pictures and measurements. Do everything you can to make sure that this follow through can go as smoothly as possible, including getting the right supplements. (Check out the supplements I use)
4. SET DEADLINES
As with any good goal, you need to set a start date and an end date. Jim Rohn defines success as “making measurable progress within a reasonable time frame.”
How will you ever know if you’re making reasonable progress towards your goals if you don’t ever set an end date?
5. REWARD YOURSELF
(This is actually tip #10 from @DailyTipsForHappiness on instagram)
Give yourself some incentive! Set some benchmarks for yourself and give yourself a treat every time you reach one! It’s called POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT> Use it to your advantage.
