I feel like I’m missing that edge – you know, that little something that allows me to get more interaction with people online. In real life, I have no problem interacting and with people, but it seems once I switch my computer on, I’m completely lost.
I started this nifty little fitness group on facebook this week called “Bandwagon Fitness” with my great friend and long time workout partner, Jon Khan, simply to get people motivated and ready to get back in the gym. I also like to offer them advice along the way, as I have struggled on and off with my fitness I know just how valuable a little personal advice can be! On top of that, it just makes me feel good to be able to help other people improve their lives and develop more self-confidence and a sense of well being.
“They send me personal messages and reveal all kinds of secrets about their life.”
I have been making posts on my personal FB page about how I quit drinking and my progress in health and fitness for an ENTIRE YEAR! The people on my friends list know my story. They send me personal messages and reveal all kinds of secrets about their life and how they want to get back on track because they feel like I’m someone they can trust. They are right, I will not reveal their secrets and I do understand, but then why is it that when I offer something good to them (Bandwagon Fitness), I seem to have minimal engagement at first? Did I pick the wrong thing? Did I present it the wrong way? Am I just not motivating enough? Why does it seem that other people who only do things like this to make a buck off their followers seem to get so much more positive engagement?
You might be wondering what the fuck this has to do with brownies, and I’ll tell you exactly what in this neat little analogy. If you know me pretty well, you’d know that I’m a decent analogist (TM), it’s just something I like to do …So sit back and enjoy the ride.
“Pour that mix into a pan and pop it in the oven @375 for 28 minutes and BAM!”
If we compare it to brownies, the way I see it is like this: Those other guys, the ones who get 10-1000x the online engagement I get, have a box of brownie mix, while I’m over here trying to make brownies from scratch. All they have to do is take a bowl, cut open the package, stir it in to some water, eggs and oil (Maybe some special herbs…;). Pour that mix into a pan and pop it in the oven @375 for 28 minutes and BAM! Delicious brownies every single time.

On the other hand, I have no box of brownie mix and I’m not even sure if it exists, so I’m over here trying to figure out what kind of chocolate to use, and ratios between chocolate and flour, eggs, and oil. I actually am not sure what the hell is even in the brownie mix besides chocolate. I could learn to do this the hard way through trial and error, but I’d much rather take the advice of my website and read, learn, and listen! If anyone out there has any pointers as to where I can find this magic pre-made recipe of brownie mix, please hook it up! This is basically a cry for help. I want to help people better but I need to know more so I can.
